On 1 October 2011 the International VELUX Award will open for registration for the 2012 edition. The prestigious Award is held for the fifth time encouraging students of architecture to explore the theme of daylight in architecture. The award is open to any registered student of architecture - individual or team - all over the world. We encourage multi-disciplinary teams including e.g. engineering, design, landscaping. Every student or student team must register to participate and must be backed and granted submission by a teacher from a school of architecture.
The outline of the Award timeline is:
- 1 October 2011: Registration opens (registration is mandatory and teacher must authorize participation)
- January 2012: Jury is appointed (international jury with representatives from UIA and EAAE)
- March 2012: Registration closes
- May 2012: Submission deadline
- June 2012: Jury meeting
- October 2012: Announcement of winners at Award event

The International VELUX Award encourages students of architecture to explore the theme of sunlight and daylight in its widest sense to create a deeper understanding of this specific and ever relevant source of light and energy. The International VELUX Award is presented every second year to promote and celebrate excellence in completed study works in any scale from small-scale components to large urban contexts or abstract concepts and experimentation.
The Award is global and open to any registered student of architecture backed by a teacher from a school of architecture. The total prize money is 30,000 Euro. The jury, comprising internationally renowned architects and other building professionals will award a number of prize winners and honourable mentions. The winners will be invited to the Award event and all projects submitted for the Award will be displayed on the Award website.
The 2012 Award will be announced in October 2011.
